eXCLUSIVE jACKET

Ah... the rural escape. Back to the country idyll of knitting your own honey, raising feral children in hard-boiled cat-fur dirndls, and settling down to a life of utter poverty as the buildings — and your equity — collapse around you. Well, that's my dream, anyway. (I'll take London and a couple weeks vacation for the time being.) Either way, the garment for you is a Barbour jacket, of either the Beaufort or the Bedale variety, and you can buy it new — even new, it offers the pleasing promise of imminent decline — or vintage, with eBay finds having even more musty authenticity and dilapidation but at a reduced price. Evolution of The Day

Here we were thinking this was the year all the famous people got divorced after all that cheating. Then off comes the smoking jacket and everyone's getting hitched again. But we're not very big on the gossip pages, really. Nor is it very often that we find ourselves endorsing male ballet dancers. But what with all of you inevitably waking up to some punny headline and asking yourself, "Natalie Portman got knocked up by this guy?" — well, allow us to briefly explain the Baryshnikovian case of Benjamin Millepied.

This guy is a legitimate choreographer, apparently — the real Frenchmen behind the impossibly cool Vincent Cassel's character in Black Swan, as it were — and he's collaborated with the likes of Y-3 and, you know, Tschaikovsky. Except when he first appeared on the red carpet by the actually cool Portman's side, he was a bit too picked-her-up-on-the-set-pretty-boy; not quite a man to be admired so much as one in a floppy bow tie to be thrown in the trash. But then...
